As a ceramic artist; earth, water, & fire are my preferred media. Creating Fine Art from Clay allows me to reassemble what geological processes have destroyed. I have the power and knowledge to return weathered clay particles to their original rock form.
I love the alchemy of blending physics, chemistry, geology, and art. Working in Clay encompasses all of those areas. But the real truth is that I can return to my child hood and have a good time playing in the mud. It feels so good! This exquisitely simple combination of Earth, and water can “morph” into; a storage jar, a bowl, a brick, a tile, or even an object of adoration and worship. This direct, immediate, and intimate interaction between hand and clay defies description. The clay becomes part of me. You might think of this as “Finger painting” in three dimensions. Clay objects beg to be touched, caressed, and held. They are interactive. This is what attracts me most to clay rather than painting.
My current interest is focused on: Boxes, Urns, & Jars. These functional and decorative containers serve as storage for: Food, Secret Treasures, or as a final resting place for all eternity. You never know what you might find inside.
