Mary Jeanne Reid Martz primarily paints landscapes. For her painting is creating a spell—a mood—not recreating a scene or object. She filters scenes or compositions through her experiences and emotions. A finished painting is meant to be evocative, not necessarily narrative, of something seen, and/or experienced. The play of light, value, contrast, and perspective are critical, but remain hers to manipulate and capture within her own vision. Her objective is to make every work a piece of herself.
