Sushmita Mazumdar, is a writer, artist, and educator. She tells real-life stories from her experiences, including stories of growing up in India, through her unique, handmade storybooks, paintings, and mixed media work. She teaches art education programs for children as well as adult groups, to encourage storytelling and has participated in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, the Washington Folk Festival, and DC Public Libraries? Summer Reading Programs. Sushmita had her first solo show at Glen Echo?s Popcorn Gallery in 2012. She is also a docent with the Smithsonian?s Freer and Sackler Galleries of Art in Washington D.C where she has been giving tours on Asian art since the year 2000. She?s a member of the Children?s Book Guild, Arlington Artists Alliance, and the Alexandria Art Forum. She received her BFA in Applied Arts from Bombay University, India, and after a successful career in advertising moved to the United States in 1999. She lives in Arlington, Virginia, with her family, and works out of her studio in Arlington, VA.
