Artist Statement: Barbara Januszkiewicz is a Washington base artist.Her studio in located in Falls Church, VA. Her dynamic visual interpretation employs large color fields that melds and overlaps translucent layers, evoking the rhythm and flow of her musical inspiration. While the artist’s work is reminiscent of Morris Louis and Helen Frankenthaler, she chooses to utilize brushes to control her fans of color rather than create pours in her color fields works and overlapping color plexiglass in her sculpture. In both medias Januszkiewicz produces a sweeping motion effortlessly in her work.
Philosophy: “My early twenties I met R. Buckminster Fuller who was a renowned 20th century inventor and visionary. He was all about giving back and making the world work for 100% of humanity. One of our discussions was about creative thinking and solutions to complex global problems through design thinking . I believes that the arts enriches humanity and it is necessary to give back, to educate, to nourish, and to sustaining an environment that would encourage creative vision in all of us.”
History: Januszkiewicz was trained under the Chinese master Mun Quan Jacksonville University. She was mentored by Paul Reed the last of the Washington Color School original painters. Her artwork has appeared in several prestigious institutions and galleries in the Washington, D.C. area, including the Phillips Collection, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Hirshhorn Museum, Art Club of Washington, Gallery K, MPA, and The Art League.
