My main aesthetic influences are cyberpunk and vaporwave. I want to create pieces with sharp contrasts, bright colors, and a mix of organic and mechanical elements. The most striking elements of my work is their lighting. For sighted people, vision is the most immediately impactful sense, so lighting can strongly and easily affect people’s aesthetic experience. For example, a kitchen lit with harsh fluorescent light can become a romantic den by switching off the electricity and adding candles.
While I hope there is nothing subtle about my pieces’ presentation, I do strive for subtlety in their design and operation. Most of my pieces are interactive but I dislike functional, utilitarian options like buttons and switches and instead opt to use the most natural and human of interaction methods: touch. By asking viewers to touch my pieces, I hope to draw them in and give them a more visceral experience. I hide all functional elements through clever design choices to create a sense of magic and wonder.
The goal of my work is to give people moments of surprise and help them experience a taste of one possible future of high tech and low life that is so cheap that the only logic choice is to live it to its fullest.
