As an artist I explore the various narratives that arise in the African American community due to significant events such as urban redevelopment, cultural identity, and gentrification. Using a variety of media such as acrylic paint, textiles, collage, printmaking, photography, and digital programs to create artworks that capture these stories from within the community and bring them to light. My work helps visualizes these narratives through cityscapes and neighborhoods with vibrant colors to signify the liveliness of living in a black urban area. Utilizing my resources and first-hand experience of growing up in a community experiencing gentrification, using my art to also highlight the benefits of urban renewal and find solutions to the problems that it might bring to a community. Throughout my own firsthand experience is growing up in multiple African-American communities.
